MFLA April Professional Learning-A/Cquisition DUU It Right!

ABOUT THE MFLA/MSDE CPD CREDIT

World language educators customize their professional growth and enhance their repertoire of theoretical knowledge, networking, and practice by selecting 15 hours of sessions offered by MFLA-Maryland. New and experienced educators self-reflect on the professional learning experiences, engage in discussion with colleagues, and design instruction that aligns to State and National Standards.

15 hours will be evaluated through the completion of a running learning log. These logs will be turned in through via a Google Form and Google Drive File Upload process in which the participant will submit each learning log reflection following the professional learning experience in which they participated.

Use authentic resources as vocabulary sources, simultaneously teaching terms and strategies in a cultural context while providing students the platform to put their negotiation of meaning and circumlocution skills to the test! This workshop will share the methodology that has driven vocabulary introduction along with resources that lead to efficient and successful acquisition of language, retention, and communication in the target language.

A/Cquisition will coach participants in how to derive thematic vocabulary from authentic resources, use discover and decipher techniques to foster negotiation of meaning, create opportunities that increase student circumlocution and interpretation skills, and engage students in multiple modes of communication. Both the teacher lens and student lens will be explored and explained.
